Well i got home from college to find that my house doesn’t have TV or internet at the moment. Being on the very edge when it comes to money, the fact that I haven’t been able to find a job has caused this. What makes it harder is I have $5 left in my possession and that isn’t even enough for gas to attempt to find a job. I already applied to 15 places since I’ve been home and have only gotten 1 interview. Is it just me? Do I come off as a terrible person on a application with my basic information? Well either way, having no internet has limited my ability to run my photography Facebook page or any other contacts to jobs, which only makes my vicious circle that much worse.
This is just one of those days that I just want to be in the gym punching things (Though I couldn’t pay for the $80 monthly fee to do it anyways…)
Today, as a society, we consume so much information in a day. We see thousands of images and branding each day and this affects us all drastically. I look at images now and fly through them. It use to be to consume all of the images that I’ve looked through would take a life time of collecting and traveling.
Now this brings up the reason I wrote this whole thing. There are still images that present themselves and everyone knows them. They are timeless. There is nothing with creating images that are fascinating and could be seen in a magazine, but what took hours to create was only looked at for 30 seconds and forgotten.
As artist, is it our goal to create to be remembered for a second and then gone? Or are we trying to create to make people think and to see in a light that maybe before they might not have openly seen. Are we all in ‘The Cave’ that Aristotle wrote about?
Project that I did for a college class. Gotta love what you can do with a white board and a single flash.
I’m finishing up a college project (Public Relations class) for the red cross, which involved me doing a video and some photography (The videos sucks because i lost my editing software :( ) for my group. Well the video would have been good and i might still post it, even thought it’s not anywhere near worthy quality, but I digress. ANYWAYS I the pictures aren’t to difficult to do (will be up end of semester).
- The set up took me 5 minutes to make
- using a classroom projections screen
- a single strop with an umbrella
- front row lights for my back light
- and a chair for my subjects to stand on, because the screen wasn’t long enough.
Test shots took only 3 attempts.
- to ensure that the ISO and aperture were correct
- Make sure the shutter speed was correct (making the exposure triangle was complete)
- and finally to make sure the focus was correct
After that, I shot through 6 in 15 minutes. I had the poses, which were limited to two each, and shot. Back in my dorm I touched up the images with Lightroom 2 (out of date and still don’t care.)
The images look great and hopefully I can get them on the internet this week or next show. I am proud to say that I’ve come far enough in my technical and creative skill to get my shots without going through a 8gb card and still have meh shots. It took me 21 shots, which with a role of film would leave me with 3 more shots to play with.
With summer coming up, I have three things I need to do. 1) spend as much time with my girlfriend as possible 2) Work, work and work so i’m no longer broke again 3) Produces some insane pictures and videos this summer.
I need to decide on a final project list this summer and it is a pain, because I am broke and need to find a summer job or two OR I need to start lining up some photography gigs, but with all these people say they’re “photographers” and that they can do it cheaper, there goes my market for the time being.
I get curious when I see people taking a picture of something. I see where the camera is aimed at and I try to understand what type of image they are trying to get. Sometimes I can’t see any decent shots and my first reaction is that there is nothing there. But then I remember that when it comes to art, it’s not about what is there as much as what a person can’t create from what is there.
Beauty is everywhere, even if you can’t see it at first.
